The Porto das Barcas Complex makes up one of the five sectors of the historic and scenic complex of Parnaíba listed by the National Historical and Artistic Heritage Institute (IPHAN) in 2008, where its construction dates from the 18th century. Because it is an important milestone in the socio-economic development of the city of Parnaíba and is located within the historic center of the city, its importance is still felt today, mainly as a tourist attraction. Elevating the memory and history of the people of Parnaiba, Porto das Barcas also marks the presence of the difference of the people who inhabited/inhabits it and is part of the reality of several workers in their daily struggles and resistance.
